Annulment Attorney in Morristown, NJ
Family Law Counsel Who Understands What’s at Stake
An annulment isn’t a faster divorce. It’s a court declaration that a marriage was never legally valid to begin with, and New Jersey law sets a demanding standard for obtaining one. Under N.J.S.A. 2A:34-1, a petitioner must establish specific statutory grounds and meet a clear and convincing evidence threshold before a court can issue a judgment of nullity. At Eveland Law Group, LLC, we devote our entire practice to New Jersey family law, and we bring both the legal precision these cases require and the personal guidance that a decision of this magnitude deserves.
Led by Jason D. Eveland, Esq., a Seton Hall University School of Law graduate with a background in Psychology and experience as a judicial law clerk for the Union County Law Division, our firm understands how New Jersey courts evaluate matrimonial matters and what it takes to build a credible annulment record. We offer initial consultations to assess whether your circumstances meet the legal threshold for an annulment and what your options are if they don’t.

Annulment cases sit at the intersection of demanding legal standards and deeply personal circumstances. The grounds must be proven with clear and convincing evidence, and a misstep, such as continuing to live as a married couple after discovering a potential ground, can defeat the claim entirely. Having counsel who understands both the legal mechanics and the human dimensions of these decisions matters.
Jason Eveland’s degree in Psychology directly informs how we work with clients navigating contested or sensitive matrimonial matters. We listen carefully, communicate clearly, and build case strategy around the specific facts at hand. His judicial clerkship with the Union County Law Division gave him direct exposure to how New Jersey family courts weigh evidence and apply matrimonial statutes. That insight is something we bring to every client matter.
Our litigation skills were developed at respected New Jersey firms and refined through that clerkship experience. We pursue equitable outcomes through strategic negotiation whenever possible, and we’re prepared to litigate when a case requires it. Peers and clients alike have rated Eveland Law Group, LLC highly for integrity, thoroughness, and professional conduct.
From our Morristown base, we serve clients throughout Morris County and across Union, Essex, Passaic, Bergen, Somerset, Warren, Hunterdon, Sussex, and Middlesex counties.

The Annulment Process in Morris County Superior Court
A New Jersey annulment begins with filing a Complaint for Annulment with the Superior Court, Family Division, in the county where either party resides. For clients in the Morristown area, that filing is made with the Morris County Superior Court Family Division. The complaint must identify the parties, the marriage, any children, and the specific ground under N.J.S.A. 2A:34-1 being claimed, supported by a certification of facts.
After filing, the other spouse must be served and has 35 days to file an Answer. If the annulment is uncontested, the matter can often proceed without a formal hearing. A contested annulment, where the other spouse disputes the grounds or raises a defense such as ratification, may involve case management, discovery, mediation, and ultimately trial.
There’s no statutory deadline to file, but delays can weaken a case if continued cohabitation is later raised as ratification. Early preparation and thorough evidence development can affect how a court evaluates the claim.
At Eveland Law Group, LLC, we represent clients in annulment matters throughout Morris County and the surrounding region. Our approach pairs careful case preparation and strategic negotiation with litigation readiness developed through experience at respected New Jersey firms and Jason Eveland’s judicial clerkship. We work to position each client’s case as clearly and effectively as possible from the outset.
